General Questions

Q:

I have tile on a subfloor. To avoid the mess of taking it out, can I either put hardwood floors over it or is there a special paint I can use to paint over the tile? If I can use a paint, how durable will it be? I have two big dogs. Is there a sealer that can be used to avoid peeling and scratching?

A:

You could put a wood floor down but it would scratch. If you wanted to paint, it works on concrete, but it doesn't bond well on tile. I think your best bet is laminate flooring or sheet vinyl. Laminates are floating floors, so you wouldn't have to take up your old floor, but a good commerical sheet vinyl would work the best. It's durable and easy to maintain. There are plenty of styles, also, to match your room's design. For a list of good contractors how can install either laminate or vinyl, consider using those found on this web site in the "Find a Professional" section.
