General Questions

Q:

For an all-season room with a hot tub, what are my options are in flooring? I am worried about moisture destroying the subfloor, but also would like some type of carpeting for its insulation value.

A:

To keep moisture from getting to your subfloor, start the process by first placing a piece of sheet vinyl over your underlayment. Next, consider choosing a piece of indoor-outdoor carpet that looks like regular house carpet on top of your vinyl floor. If you want to put ceramic tile in the room, you can also purchase low-voltage electric radiant heat that goes under your new ceramic floor. But whichever method you choose, you should allow a professional to do the installation. You can find one on this web site in the "find a professional" section.

Next Question: I have tile on a subfloor. To avoid the mess of taking it out, can I either put hardwood floors over it or is there a special paint I can use to paint over the tile? If I can use a paint, how durable will it be? I have two big dogs. Is there a sealer that can be used to avoid peeling and scratching?
