Carpet - Installation

Q:

I want to put new carpet in my basement, which already has indoor/outdoor carpeting on it. The indoor/outdoor doesn’t look bad, we just want a new look. Can’t we put the new carpet over the existing stuff?

A:

Not recommended. You soon will be faced with wrinkles in your new carpet, and if there’s a spill, you’d have to attend to the carpet beneath the new one, too, or you’ll soon get some interesting aromas.

Previous Question: I tried to do a do-it-yourself job on our home’s entryway, which transitions from vinyl to carpet. The tack strip broke and I tried to replace it, but I can’t get it to lay right.
Next Question: What can I use to remove a outdoor carpert that's glued down on the cement floor?
