Q:

What precautions should I take when removing tiles that may contain asbestos?

A:

It is not a good idea for anyone but a professional to handle flooring that contains asbestos. In fact, your best bet is to leave the floor alone and simply cover it with a laminate or other type of floor. In either case, I suggest contacting a professional.

Previous Question: We currently have vinyl flooring in one of our bathrooms and would like to replace it with tile. When is the last year vinyl flooring was made with aesbestos? This home was built in 1989 and the vinyl was installed at that time. If it contains aesbestos, how do you recommend removing the vinyl? Is it "safe" for homeowners to do this kind of job themselves? Thanks for your time!
