Basement Floors
What product would you recommend for use on cement floors in a damp, potentially wet, basement? We also have a foyer to cover at outside entry door, 1/2 flight steps higher than basement. We use dehumidifiers, and there are French drain and sump pump installed.
Ceramic tile is an excellent choice for basements and foyers. Ceramic tile must be installed with a multi-purpose, thin-set mortar, and then grouted with a cemetitious (cement-like) grout. The concrete and ceramic floor should then become one after installation. As with all cemetitious products, there should be no mildew. If you want your basement to have a cozy atmosphere, area rugs should help. To install your ceramic tile, it's best to let a professional handle the project. Check this web site for a list of experts.
